RF6: Suhad's Preschool

Welcome to Refugee Friday! Today is the SIXTH installment of Refugee Friday. Every Friday, through the end of the year, we're partnering with Preemptive Love to share the stories of refugee survivors across Syria and Iraq. Along with giving these survivors a voice to share their story, 50% of orders placed on Refugee Friday will go to Preemptive Love to contribute aid and relief efforts, but ultimately, to restoring dignity after desolation. Here’s Suhad’s story…

I need to help the children, I need to remove the idea of ISIS and displacement, and refresh their minds toward the future and to have hope.
— Suhad

Suhad leads a pre-school for children and orphans in Fallujah. She's created a beautiful space where kids can be kids again and reimagine a future of hope and safety. On a wall of handprints, students write what they wish to be when they grow up. Some wish to be doctors and teachers. One student wishes "for all people to be good."

In this city famous for destruction, war and pain, Suhad is reclaiming its identity, and helping children whose behavior has been affected by war succeed. Three students arrived at her school unable to speak, but she poured into them, and slowly each child began speaking. This is just the beginning. She has big plans for her preschool.
